Red Alert 2011

Red Alert

Its almost that time of year where REAAL celebrates being fly, fashionable, and informed with a cause. In 2007 REAAL presented Red Alert, the first benefit fashion show on Michigan State’s campus. Red Alert began with the goal to promote awareness and understanding of the AIDS and HIV viruses while providing a connector between those at risk of being infected and those living with the disease. This goal is still ambitiously pursued each year as annually somewhere around 250 students either attend or are involved with Red Alert itself. Proceeds are donated to research of these diseases as well as preventive programs to continue awareness among youth throughout the year with the help of the Lansing Area AIDS Network. Over the years campus offices, colleges, deans and organizations along with individual businesses and student leaders have shown tremendous support of this event. Those who had foresight to support us at the beginning have been priceless to our growth, and those who have joined along the journey have enabled us to expand and touch lives in ways we couldn’t have imagined.

We cannot express how much we appreciate the support each year for REAAL, and more importantly our cause. If we inspire one student to get tested, find their own voice, spread knowledge, or compel someone to pursue their own cause we have more than succeeded. In any of these cases we have given someone the tools to conquer, and this after all is what being REAAL is all about.

Love and Peace
